Scholarships

Sixth Form

A number of scholarships are awarded to students joining Wolverhampton Grammar School in the 6th Form. There are four different sorts:

Governors’ Academic Scholarships

Two Governors’ Academic Scholarships are awarded to students entering the sixth form. As they are awarded on a competitive basis, applicants for academic scholarships will need to attain a higher standard at GCSE than the standard entry requirements (normally at least 6 A*/A grades).

Each academic scholarship is worth 25% of the annual school fee.

Governors’ Music Awards

We award one music scholarship to a student joining the sixth form. The scholarship provides 25% remission of the school fees plus free music tuition on the instrument of your choice. Students who are awarded music scholarships must still meet the sixth form academic entrance requirements and should be working at Grade VI standard or higher (and should be looking to reach Grade VIII standard in the sixth form). Music scholars are expected to make a significant contribution to musical life whilst they are at the school.

Science Scholarship

Wolverhampton Grammar School is able to offer a scholarship to one student transferring to the school from the maintained (state) sector to study Physics and/or Mathematics amongst their A-levels, with a priority given to those studying both subjects. A scholarship includes helps towards uniform and travel costs. The level of award may vary according to family income but no award will be made if the family income is over £33,500. The school will require proof of income prior to any award being made.

Applicants for scholarships will be interviewed. Other applicants may be asked for interview depending on the reference received from their school or college.
