There’s no doubt in our mind that those who make a major commitment outside the classroom do best within it - and ultimately in their public exams and in the places they win at high-status universities.

What's it like to be a student at WGS?

Thank you for visiting our website. I hope you enjoy it.

I believe it gives an accurate picture, though only a snapshot, of the life of the school. We are very conscious of our long and proud tradition of academic scholarship: at the same time, we believe passionately that what happens outside the classroom is of equal importance. A broad education that challenges children to learn and to try new things both in timetabled lessons and beyond them gives the best possible start in life. So our students will encounter all sorts of new things in lessons; new concepts and techniques; subjects they never experienced in junior school. They (and their parents) will be astonished by the amount they seem to cover in the course of a busy week. At the same time we will encourage them to be strongly involved and committed in the host of other activities available - whatever captures their interest.

If you like what you see on the website, please come and see the school. We believe you’ll find a place that is happy; where children are confident; where relationships between teachers and students - and between students - are relaxed but respectful; and where there is a clear sense of purpose and excitement about learning and growing up. I look forward to welcoming you to Wolverhampton Grammar School.
