We will develop enquiring minds, minds that pose questions and seek answers that reflect upon the learning achieved.
The Classroom
Big Six spend much of the time in their own classroom. This is also the base for any spare time. It is a bright, light filled, well-resourced classroom with computer terminals, interactive whiteboard and flexible seating.
‘Hands On’
Students can expect to learn by ‘doing’. They will research in their own way with guidance. This involves visits to places such as the theatre where the student can investigate and research thoroughly. They won’t sit still for long.
Lunchtime
Big Six students go to lunch early to eat with their staff. They have a rich and varied programme of lunchtime activities such as choir, sport, craft and computer games. The lunch hour flies by...
Clubs and Activities
The Big Six students have the same opportunities as year 7. There is a wide range of activities to suit everyone, from chances to represent the school in the year 7 and Big Six sports teams through to auditions for drama productions. The school also has its own scout troop which Big Six are welcome to join.
The Curriculum - it’s fun
We encourage activity every day such as drama, ball skills, swimming, dance, team games and cross country. Classroom based activities include creative mathematics, active table learning, science in labs and beyond, quiet reading, spoken french, poetry recital and much more.
Marking and Assessment
There is a continuous assessment process at Wolverhampton Grammar School with regular and constructive feedback to Big Six students and parents that reflect the efforts, achievements and merits of the students. However, we feel that this can be effectively done by comment and targeted guidance rather than grades.
Teaching Staff
“We’re as excited by it all as the students. We can explore our subjects beyond the constraints of the national curriculum. A question asked can stimulate further enquiry; we can go where the students take us. It’s what teaching should really be about.”
OpAL
The WGS OpAL PROGRAMME (Opportunities through Assisted Learning) is designed to allow bright dyslexic children to benefit from a first-class education at Wolverhampton Grammar School. There will be places for Big Six children to join the OpAL Programme.
