Will my child have to sit the 11+ entrance test to go into Year 7?
Big Six students won’t have to worry about our 11+ entrance test as they won’t be asked to do it. They will simply carry on through to Year 7, unless you wish to apply for an academic scholarship or governors’ bursary.
How will children by selected for Big Six?
Assessment days will be arranged on an occasional basis starting in January, every time a suitable number of Year 5 (9+) children have registered.
During the assessment day, your child will spend time on both group and individual activities. The day itself will be enjoyable and rewarding and most definitely not pressured. It will be designed to allow us to make a rounded and scientific judgment as to your child’s potential to benefit from Big Six – and will provide a lot of fun on the way.
The fees
Please contact the school for details of current fees or visit the fees page. To help you spread the cost of fees, we offer a monthly direct debit scheme.
There are no academic scholarships or Governors’ Aided Places available for Big Six applicants but, by sitting the same entrance test as external candidates in the January of the Big Six year, they can compete on level terms for scholarships and aided places for Year 7 at WGS. Please see the school prospectus for details.
How do I apply for a place in Big Six?
To register your child for Big Six, please complete the Registration Form and send it to our Admissions Secretary at the address below together with the non-refundable registration fee of £25 to cover administration. We are unable to register your child for an Assessment Day until the registration fee is received. All boys and girls who show the potential to benefit from Big Six will be offered a place.
Applications for the WGS OpAL PROGRAMME
The WGS OpAL PROGRAMME is for the inclusion of bright dyslexics in an academic school. Applicants will take part in the Big Six assessment day and be interviewed by OpAL staff. Student applications should include an up to date Educational Psychologist’s report and the name and address of any specialist teacher they have worked with. Students receive five support lessons per week. OpAL PROGRAMME costs are an additional term’s fees per annum. Full details are in the main school prospectus.
