Parents always say to us that their child’s school years have passed in a flash of games and homework, plays and lessons. One minute they are bright, enthusiastic children, the next we are saying goodbye to mature, interesting young adults at our traditional Leavers’ lunch.
Our students leave us confident and selfassured, ready to face the bigger challenges of life beyond school. They do so with the certain knowledge that their school days have prepared them well for what is to follow.
For most the logical step is university, and we have a proud tradition of getting students the high grades that will qualify them for the top courses in the country. For others, the world of work or the gap year may beckon.
What is certain is that they look back on their time at Wolverhampton Grammar School with affection, seeing it as the stepping stone that made their future success a possibility.
And we keep in touch. Once a member of this community, students may move on but they are certainly not forgotten. The school’s magazine, The Wulfrunian, arrives once a year to remind them that things keep moving forward here, and there is always news of Old Wulfrunians too. Year after year, younger ex-students come back to play sport (or music) at the Old Wulfs’ September reunion. Older ones return for a dinner in March.
Wherever they go, whatever they do, they remain part of the community of which we are so proud.
