Application Procedure

Entrance at 11+ 12+ 13+
To register your child for the 11+, 12+ or 13+ entrance test for Wolverhampton Grammar School, please complete the Registration Form and send it to our Admissions Secretary. As there is a considerable amount of administration involved in the registration procedure, we charge a small registration fee of £25. This is non-refundable. Please send the registration fee with your form. We are unable to register your child for the entrance test until the registration fee is received. For entry in September 2008, please return your form and registration fee no later than Wednesday 19th December 2007. Once you have registered your child, we will ask his or her current school for a confidential report.
Following the entrance test, we invite a small number of candidates for interview. Children are called for interview for one of several reasons. They may be being considered for a scholarship; they may be borderline; or they may be one of a random selection of children interviewed to test the effectiveness of the school’s entrance tests - you should not place any emphasis on whether your child is invited for interview or not. Children who are successful in the entrance test will be offered a place at the end of January. If your child has been awarded a scholarship you will be notified at the same time.
OpAL Programme
To register your child for the OpAL (Opportunities through Assisted Learning) Programme, please complete the Registration Form and send it to our Admissions Secretary. You will also need to send a recent report from an Educational Psychologist and the name and address of any teacher who has given your child specialist teaching in the last two years. There are two routes of entry into the OpAL Programme: by our standard entrance test or by interview. Once you have registered your child for the OpAL Programme, the Programme Director will discuss with you the options of sitting the entrance test or being assessed for admission by interview. In accordance with SENDA (2001), all candidates assessed as dyslexic receive extra time in the entrance examination. The school’s Special Educational Needs and Disability Accessibility Plan is available on request.
