Steph Beaman a sixth form student at Wolverhampton Grammar School (WGS) is aiming to raise £4,500 to fund her trip to Cambodia where she will spend a year working with orphaned and abandoned children. The trip has been organised through Project Trust, a charity which sends school leavers to less developed countries in order to support local community projects.
The charity salsa evening which includes a live band and professional salsa instructors will take place at WGS on Friday 22nd February. The event will help to raise much needed funds for the trip which Steph will be making in July.
"The work of Project Trust supports thousands of people around the world, enabling local communities to develop infrastructures and help themselves," explains Steph who is currently studying for her 'A' levels at WGS.
"Cambodia is slowly recovering from years of turmoil and though it is starting to develop a fledgling manufacturing economy, much of the country's population eek out a meagre living as subsistence farmers, so projects such as this really do help local people to build better lives for themselves and tehir families."
The salsa evening is just one of a number of charity events organised by Steph who will use the money to fund her travel arrangements and provide practical help to the community where she will live and work. Steph has also set up a dedicated website where interested parties can go to find further information or make donations.
Dr. Bernard Trafford, head at Wolverhampton Grammar School comments: "Everyone here at WGS is fully behind Steph and her work with Project Trust. Her trip to Cambodia is one of many such ventures that our students undertake in order to support communities around the world and we are extremely proud of our record in this area."
The salsa evening will take place at Wolverhampton Grammar School, Compton Road on Friday 22 February. Doors open at 8.00pm. For further information please go to: www.justgiving.com/stephbeaman.
