Student Called Up To England U16 Hockey Squad

Wolverhampton Grammar School student Nick Bandurak has been called into the England Under 16 Hockey Squad to face Ireland in the mini series in Manchester next month.

Following the Regional U15/U17 tournaments in October and the England Hockey Assessment Camps in November, selection has been made for the U16 squad. The squad was reduced to around 20 players following the training camp in Gibraltar earlier this month.

Nick aged 14 from Cannock recently captained the UK Under 14 Lions team tour of Malta. He plays Under 15 hockey and Under 14 football for WGS teams where he regularly finds the back of the net. He starts his GCSEs in September.

Nick hopes to reach the Senior Squad in time for the London Olympics in 2012 and is working hard with an array of coaches at club, county and international level to improve his skills with the stick.

Mr Anderson, Head of Lower School and Hockey coach at Wolverhampton Grammar School commented, “It’s always a huge honour for one of our students to be selected at International level especially with the Olympics and global recognition within striking distance. Nick is a quality player and his ability to score goals will mean he will make any team he plays for better! He was recently awarded his school Colours tie by the Head and we are confident that his sporting feats will be matched by his academic success during his GCSE and A level years.”
