Run Raises 5000 for Liver Disease Charity

A team of Wolverhampton Grammar School students have ran the breadth of Britain for charity and have raised over £5,000 for Children's Liver Disease Foundation.

The nine students, aged 14 and 15, ran 180 miles from St. Bees on the west coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast of North Yorkshire, to raise the money. The run took the students 25 hours.

The students celebrated this week with supporters Stratstone Jaguar and Premier Sports. Through the generosity of Stratstone Jaguar in Wolverhampton the cost of the trip was covered, therefore allowing all donations to go directly to Children's Liver Disease Foundation.

Their route took them through the Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park traversing, as Wainwright described it, “the grandest territory in the North of England.”

The students undertook intensive training for sixteen weeks with four of their teachers, Heidi Dalzell, Neil Bradley, Simon Hinchliffe and James Millichamp. They were supported on route by additional staff members and parents.

The runners were: Patrick Norton-Uhl from Compton, Sunil Randev from Penn, Michael McEwen from Lower Penn, Lydia Parr from Codsall, Olivia Price from Albrighton, Daniel Lopez from Tettenhall, Sam Jones from Lower Penn, Chris Apperley from Sedgley and Mark Cartwright from Wombourne.

Every day in the UK at least two children will be diagnosed with a liver disease. Thousands more are living with it - day in, day out. There are over 100 different liver diseases which affect children and young people and most are life threatening. There is only one national charity fighting all liver diseases of childhood - Children's Liver Disease Foundation. It fights by funding pioneering research, providing education and giving professional, caring support to the families and patients.

Supporter Fundraising Manager from Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, Sarah Briggs commented, “This was a tremendous effort by the students who raised the money. We would very much like to thank everyone associated with the Coast to Coast run. These funds will make a massive difference to the work we do at the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.”
