Fees and scholarships
BIG SIX
In 2011/12 Big Six will form part of Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School. For details of fees please go to www.wgjs.co.uk.

YEAR SEVEN +
Year 7, 8 & 9 fees for 2011/12 are £11,325.00 per annum. These can be paid in three installments, to be paid at the start of each term. Those who choose to pay termly will therefore pay three times £3,775.00. Payment can also be made by monthly Direct Debit (see below).
OpAL in Year Seven
OpAL programme costs are an additional term’s fees per annum. This additional charge is to meet the cost of the intensive small-group teaching that OpAL students receive to help them with their Specific Learning Difficulty.
This fee applies to your child’s first three years in school. When your child embarks on his or her GCSE or A Level course, we will reassess the level of individual need. At this point, the school can usually reduce the additional charge to 50 percent of one term’s fee as the amount of extra help diminishes.
WGS Scholarships
The status of WGS may have changed several times over its long history, but it has always been proud of its standing in the community; that is why as an independent school, it still works hard to maintain a generous fund aimed at providing financial help to those children who we think show potential to achieve academically and will make a positive contribution to the school.
Academic & Music Scholarships
We offer a number of academic scholarships to the children who score most highly in the entrance test. There are ten academic scholarships given at Year 7 each worth 10 percent of the annual school fee. Academic scholarships are awarded regardless of family income.
This year, three brand new scholarships are being offered to mark the school’s quincentenary: one for students joining at Year 7 and two for students joining at aged 16:
THE JENYNS SCHOLARSHIP (named after the school’s founder) will be offered to a student (or students) coming from the city of Wolverhampton who, along with strong academic ability can demonstrate that they will make a strong contribution to the school in a number of areas such as music, art, sports, drama, or debating.
The Jenyns Scholarship is equivalent to one full fee paying place and will be offered to a student (or students) who fulfil the above criteria. There may be more than one scholarship awarded each year dependent on the number of appropriate candidates and their family income. Awards may vary according to the level of family income, however to be considered for the Jenyns Scholarship a family’s household income should not exceed £60,000 per annum.
• Member of Elite group and / or Academy linked to a professional sporting club or organisation
• National ranking in their chosen sport
• Particular prowess in a range of sports as attested by testimonials from school / sports clubs / sporting associations

Monthly payment of fees
Wolverhampton Grammar School operates a monthly payment scheme for the payment of fees. This is in order to assist parents in spreading the cost of their child’s education over the year. There is a 2% charge for those opting to pay by monthly direct debit. Termly and annual direct debit arrangements do not incur a charge.
The scheme is used for the payment of academic tuition fees; extras such as lunches, daily travel, fees insurance and music tuition can also be included. The total annual costs will therefore be paid by way of direct debit in equal instalments. This scheme is open to all parents.
Parents with more than one child in school should note that a separate direct debit will be required for each child.
Direct Debit applications forms are available on request from the Finance department (01902 712060), where representatives will also able to answer any questions parents may have on the operation of the scheme(s). Payments normally commence in September of each year. However, it will be possible in certain cases for direct debit payment to begin at other points during the year.
