New to WGS
WGS has been an integral part of the city since 1512. Now, as we approach our 500th anniversary, it is a busy, happy and successful co-educational school with a national reputation for excellence.
The WGS philosophy places scholarship at the heart of a challenging education which promotes achievement through active involvement. Ours is an academic school which provides a truly well rounded education. Examination success is clearly important but we are aiming for much more than that - we want our students to flourish in mind, body and spirit. Thus, beyond the classroom we provide a breathtaking array of opportunities to develop the interests and talents of all our students. As a result, we are confident that WGS students will be very well prepared for the challenges and opportunities of adult life in a rapidly changing world.
Our students come to us from a wide range of primary and preparatory schools in Wolverhampton and surrounding towns and villages and the rich social and cultural mix of the student body, enhances the school’s relaxed, but purposeful atmosphere. Proud of its history and traditions, but dynamic and forward looking, WGS is a very caring community that aspires to excellence in all aspects of school life.
This website can really only give you a flavour of the school and I hope it does. However, don’t just take my word for it, please contact our admissions team to arrange a visit so that you can come and meet our students and teachers and experience for yourself the unique, friendly and inspiring atmosphere of Wolverhampton Grammar School.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Vincent Darby, Head.
