Jobs at WGS
TEACHER OF PHYSICS
from 1st September 2012
We seek a well motivated, enthusiastic and innovative teacher to join the Physics Department in this dynamic, academically selective school. The successful candidate should be suitably qualified and able to teach Physics to A Level. In addition, there will be classes throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, and the ability to teach another (possibly science) subject up to Year 9 is preferred.
We’re looking for a colleague who will make a valuable contribution in the department, the classroom and add to the rich extra-curricular programme that the school offers. This post would be suitable for either a first appointment or someone seeking to develop their career.
This will be a full-time appointment for two terms.
Salary will be on WGS’s own scale which is above the National scale.
Closing date for applications 4.00pm, Tuesday 21st February. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter. If you are called for interview and would like your partner to see the school and area in advance or on the day, you are welcome to contact my PA (Nicola Murphy) and make the necessary arrangements for this.

WGS PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
The successful candidate will join a department of three full time members.
The department has a strong and sustained record of academic success. It is a popular subject both at AS and A2 with healthy numbers of students in both years. At A Level, the department offers AQA Physics A. Several students go on to study Physics (or closely related courses) at prestigious universities.
In Key Stage Four, we deliver AQA GCSE Physics. Currently, we achieve around 75% at A*/A (100% pass rate A*-C). These results are very good but the department knows that there is no room for complacency, so we are constantly seeking ways of improving our ‘statistics’.
The department itself is situated in three spacious laboratories and a prep/stock room on the ground floor, all of which are looked after by an excellent laboratory technician. Two lower school labs shared with Chemistry and Biology are located in a separate building. The Physics department is extremely well stocked with a good supply of modern equipment. Computers and projectors are available for teaching in each lab and top end Pasco data-logging equipment is available for demonstrations.
Naturally, a school such as WGS offers all kinds of opportunities and, while we need above all an inspired and inspiring teacher of Physics, we will be delighted if candidates are willing to make a contribution to the department and school’s busy extra-curricular life.
We hope that all this documentation provides sufficient information, but you are welcome to speak to me (01902 712004) or the Head of Physics, Nick Munson (01902 421326 ext 253), if you wish to discuss the post further.
Wolverhampton Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced CRB check.
