Friends of WGS
WHO ARE THE FRIENDS?
We are the equivalent of a Parent Teacher Association with the addition of ex-parents, ex-students and Governors. Mr. Darby, a Governor, a member of staff and several parents form our committee. New members are always welcome. We meet once or twice a term at most, on a Monday evening. The current committee comprises:
Linda Askew, Chair. To contact Linda, call 01902 850264
Sue Foxhall, Vice-chair. To contact Sue, call 01785 840056
Nina Longstaff, Secretary.
Linda, Sue, Nina will be providing a few lines of biography and photographs of themselves soon, so anyone thinking of coming along can 'get to know them' in advance of the meetings, so watch this space.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We work with the school to arrange fundraising and social events during the school year.
WHY HAVE THE FRIENDS AT AN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL?
Now your child is at Senior School you don’t get to meet on the playground or at the school gates. The Friends events involve you in the school by giving you the opportunity to socialise with parents, children and the staff outside of the normal school situation. We also raise funds for specific projects which school fees cannot cover, but help enrich the life of the school e.g. new mini bus, theatre seating, and boulder wall.
HOW DO I JOIN?
By being a part of the school through your child, you are already a member of The Friends of Wolverhampton Grammar School and will receive details of any events we have planned via the Head’s Newsletter.
Yes, you can offer to help in one of many ways without becoming a committee member. Further information will be sent to you at the start of the school year.
You would need to come to the termly meetings where possible. At the meetings we make sure that everything is in place for the next event. The jobs you can volunteer to do for an event include, collecting tickets, serving at the bar and selling raffle tickets on the night.
